High Court Registry Appeal

When a Judgment is delivered in the Magistrate Court, parties are given time to appeal to the High Court if they are not satisfied with the Judgment. A time frame of 28 days is given within which the appeal should be made. If the time lapses, then parties are to seek leave to appeal out of time from the High Court.
Once the appeal is filed together with the Grounds of Appeal in the Magistrate Court, the Registry is to inform the Presiding Magistrate that his/her Judgment is being appealed and the copy record is prepared. The copy record is furnished and then dispatched to the High Court Criminal Registry.
When the High Court receives the record a file is created and the matter is registered. The file together with a minute from the Senior Court Officer is dispatched to one of the presiding Judges for a date. Once a date is given parties are informed and the matter is called.
